Why is it Important to Express Stories Through the Art of Drag?

We are celebrating European Drag Queens, and we asked Drag Queens around Europe the question: “Why is it important to express stories through the art of drag?”. We got our first response from Mizz Privileze, a Drag Queen from Denmark.

"I love using drag as a tool to promote equality and challenge the narrow definitions of gender. I believe everyone deserves to dress and express themselves 100% authentically and drag is a great art form to help people see a world beyond the binary boxes"

- Mizz Privileze (they/them). They describe themselves as a norm-critical drag queen on a mission.

They are known for being the first drag performer to get a golden buzzer (a recognition by a judge that makes them move further into the competition) and make it to the finale in “Danmark har talent” (Denmark Got Talent), which is a television talent show competition from the Got Talent franchise.

Mizz Privileze was in 2020 nominated as a drag performer and also LGBT+person of the year at the Danish Rainbow Awards, which is an annual awards ceremony that pays tribute to the organizations, companies, and individuals who help to create awareness, life, and content in Denmark's LGBTQ+ community.

The dragtivist (drag activist) is also one of the forces behind "Live and let live", a movement working towards stopping hate crimes against LGBTQ+ persons in Denmark.

The queen is a trained teacher, certified human rights consultant and has since 2021 done drag as a full-time career, doing podcasts, lectures on drag, and hosting shows all around Denmark like the popular party concept "SHAMELEZZ".
