Green Kayak

“We love the ocean, as it brings us life and connects us all”.

Today is the International Day for Disaster Reduction, which encourages citizens to take part in building disaster-resilient communities. We spoke to @greenkayak.ngo, a citizen-led initiative offering free kayaking to fight water pollution.

Tobias founded GreenKayak back in 2017 in Copenhagen, at a time when he was a professional sea kayak instructor and had become more and more upset about the increasing amount of trash in the city’s harbor. This sparked his idea to lend out kayaks to people for free, as long as they would pick up trash along their way.

Today Tobias works alongside Oke - both appear in the first image. They now seek to expand their project on a global scale. “We all need to be part of the solution. We believe that once you have tried picking up trash from the water, it will move something within your soul and give you a new, clearer perspective on ocean pollution”.

According to Tobias and Oke, “European citizens must use their privilege to enhance the well-being of the planet, showing the rest of the world that we care. This way, we can inspire people across the planet”.
