Hanna (Collaboration with Sphera)
“Despite the chaos of the wide range of mediums to work with, I hope to never refine the scope of what I create.”
Today we proudly present one of the young artists from the @spheranow ‘s Arts and Culture Campaign!
“I’m not sure if I count as an artist, but I mostly focus on photographic projects while every once in a while picking up an editorial illustration or two. Being pulled towards ‘illustration’ originated from my secret dream of making a children’s book and/or comic strip in the future.”
“I started out as a fashion photographer but constantly struggle between sticking to fashion editorial work and journalistic work - other days, I throw everything I know out the window and see how I feel in the moment. Despite the chaos of the wide range of mediums to work with, I hope to never refine the scope of what I create.”
Artist @htorphoto created these beautiful illustrations for the Finnish media organisation @ruskeattytotmedia . Their work focuses on centering and normalising the perspectives of Brown women and people with underrepresented genders in Nordic culture.
The article in question, written by Yilin Ma, described the refuge they gained through digital literature when faced with the alienating experiences of growing up in the Finnish diaspora. Having grown up in the North herself, that was something that Hanna felt she heavily resonated with.
For all Finnish-speakers: here you can find the link to the whole article.
