Grupa Granica
What is the process of saving lives at the border?
Karol Wilczyński: “This process started today at around 3:30, maybe 4:00 AM. Three extraordinary guys from the Grupa Granica’s base left at this time to save three people from Syria. "They are in a moribund state, hurry up!" - such were the messages we constantly received from them about the family. We informed the doctors on the border about the situation, which sent three fantastic rescuers to the vicinity of Lake Siemianówka.
They did so because the 112 dispatcher refused to send an ambulance, saying the police had to arrive first. Mrs. Mariam and Mr. Ismail were indeed in a very bad condition. The body temperature of Mrs. Mariam, 49 years old, was only ... 34 degrees. Time played a key role here. Fortunately, 2-year-old Amal was safe. This time a miracle happened - doctors were admitted by the police, which is why they could save the family. Ultimately, they were taken to the hospital, under the care of Grupa Granica and our lawyer. We were also supported by journalists all the time, to which I would like to thank for accompanying us for almost 10 hours.”

Grupa Granica is an informal group composed by people from all over Poland, aiming to help refugees and save lives every day. In the borderland, apart from huge tragedies and heartlessness, you can sometimes see such small miracles. However, the situation has worsened considerably since last week: we are receiving more and more reports (about 20-30 a day) and the temperature regularly drops to -3, -4 degrees at night. Soon, the borderland will become a place of mass graves.
Names have been changed.
