Peines Partagées

Peines Partagées: ‘Shared Pain’, or ‘Shared Sentences’.

Assaf Shoshan’s project attempts to act as a portal of communication between couples where one is imprisoned in Rebibbia, Italy, and the other is effectively ‘locked up outside’, the gap between lovers growing wider all the time.

The audience is presented with mute, filmed portraits. We can only wonder at the complexity of emotions conveyed between partners as they struggle to make their relationship work despite being separated by prison walls.

What hopes and dreams do these couples still share in this painful situation? Paolo would like to have a child with Liliana, who is not so sure about the future.

Shoshan’s installation offers a unique perspective of love and how one’s circumstances dictates the nature of relationships in direct and indirect ways.
